The Story Behind the News

IPON – Indo-Pacific Open News brings you stories from one of the most important regions in the world, told in compelling and immersive ways.

What we do

We believe that being a journalist means being a witness.
Our stories are either reported firsthand or built around the voices of those who were there.

We believe the news is for everyone.
We strive to make our storytelling accessible while remaining rich in insight and depth.

We prioritize field agents.
Our journalists are based where the story takes place — or speak directly to those who are.

What we don’t do

We do not speculate.
No “may” or “could” in our headlines. We report what happens, not what might.
Fortune-telling is not journalism.

We don’t quote “experts” for the sake of authority.
If someone speaks in our stories, it’s because they know what they’re talking about — not because of their title.

We don’t report from afar.
Our perspective is on the ground, not from above.

IPON is privately funded.
We do not rely on public money or a single corporate sponsor. We are independent — by design.

We have no agenda.
We report what’s verifiable, what we’ve witnessed, and what the people involved are saying — even if it’s not what you want to hear.

The Indo-Pacific is one of the most dynamic and consequential regions in the world today.
You deserve to know what’s going on — and why.

We believe audiences are smart. They want to learn. So we’ll give you what you deserve.

This is IPON’s mission: Not just news — knowledge.

We are proudly based in Kaohsiung — a city at the hinge of the Indo-Pacific arc. Contributing to international understanding of the city that hosts us is part of our mission.
